Do not love the world or anything in the world.”

1 John 2:15

Day 1 to forever

I’ll be late for that

As I was putting some finishing touches on my website tonight, I started hearing the caressing strings on the intro of Late by Kanye West … 2024 is much later than I expected to be accomplishing certain things. The timeline I set several years ago had me at album 5 by now, but hey, I’ll be late for that. I think the beauty of that, and of this song, is that it may seem late to y’all, or to our past selves, but right now feels right on time.

I’m thrilled to be on day one month one. I feel like God hit the big ahh reset button for me. (Thank you God!) Perhaps it’s the 4 month sabbatical I’ve taken from being a bad boss to myself (solo-preneur vibes), maybe it’s the low-information diet and no social media. My mom would say it’s all the Bible reading (last year brought me to my knees, back to God). I’ll say it’s all of that and more. I feel more built now than ever. And that’s freeing too because this isn’t my final form either (don’t get too excited anime nerds- I never finished any version of Dragon Ball Z. But I can dig it). That’s actually a good example of how life is when you’re growing and evolving- as your powers level up, your hair changes color and you’re able to fight and win against bigger and badder foes. Or something like that.

The point is that the challenges get harder, but we become more equipped to handle them. God never gives us more than we can bear.

What’s refreshing about being in a new year isn’t new year resolutions-although I’m thinking about doing some for the first time. I always felt like any moment is a good moment to make a change for the better, but this New Year’s Day feels spiritually significant. It feels like the shedding of a heavy layer, maybe just me mentally preparing to throw 2023 in the garbage can like a piece of scratch paper. Alright, that one was decent, but this next one is gonna be WAY better.

And I’m so happy for another chance to try. I’ve got intentions, vision, plans and goals, but my strategy is the most refined yet- go with the flow. I’m not setting any deadlines yet because hey, I’m coming in when I feel like.

May this year and all the rest be blessed and prosperous for you. – Des
